Earlier this spring, Bakelite brought together fleet leaders from across its operations for a two-day Driver Safety Committee meeting at its Conway, North Carolina facility. The initiative focused on strengthening driver readiness, sharing best practices, and supporting the well-being of those behind the wheel—along with the communities they serve.
Organized by Transportation Specialist Trevor Lane, the meeting included representatives from each of Bakelite’s three fleet locations. Participants included Diesel Fleet Mechanic Allen Pearson and Truck Drivers Jonathan Garner and Jeffrey Bearden. The group serves as a network of on-the-ground leaders who help promote strong driving practices and support their teammates.
The agenda combined hands-on learning, expert insights, and collaborative discussions aimed at enhancing performance both on the road and across operations.
Highlights from the session included:
- Guidance from 3M specialists, who shared practical approaches to fall protection and respiratory considerations for drivers working in a range of environments.
- Insights from a State Trooper, covering key aspects of commercial driving such as vehicle inspections, crash prevention, and responsible driving habits.
- A tour of a tire retread facility, offering a closer look at how commercial tires are inspected, repaired, and reused to maintain safety and reliability.
- Enhancements to driver resources, helping ensure consistent practices across all fleet operations.
- The introduction of the “Driver Safety First” incentive program, recognizing drivers who demonstrate strong, consistent performance on the road.
While the meeting took place in Conway, its impact extends far beyond a single location. Participants will take what they’ve learned back to their respective teams, helping to reinforce best practices and encourage continuous improvement.
Through efforts like the Driver Safety Committee, Bakelite continues to invest in its people and its operations—supporting drivers and helping promote safer roads for everyone.
Bakelite thanks Trevor Lane and the Driver Safety Committee members for their leadership and commitment to keeping drivers prepared, supported, and ready for the road ahead.
