Bakelite Hexamethylenetetramine

…more commonly known as Hexamine, is made from ammonia and formaldehyde. It is an efficient crosslinker with no water release and is a formaldehyde donor when used in an aqueous acidic environment. Available in aqueous solutions, it is used in a variety of industrial applications, including:

  • Curing agent for industrial phenolic resins
  • Chemical intermediate/chemical synthesis
  • Rubber cross-linker
  • Metal and Rubber hardening agent
  • Ballistics and munitions for civil and military applications
  • Reagent in inorganic chemistries

Energy

  • Hexamine is used to create solid propulsion fuel and cooking tablets because it is smokeless when burned, has a high energy density, does not liquify while burning, and leaves no ashes.
  • It is used by campers, hobbyists, and relief organizations for heating food.
