Not every sustainability effort begins in a garden, but for our Longueuil, Canada team, that’s exactly where this one took root. What started with a handful of recycled pallets evolved into an initiative focused on reducing waste while supporting a local organization.
Over the winter months, Maintenance Associate Jocelyn Bergeron transformed wooden pallets into three large vegetable gardens, giving new purpose to materials that might otherwise have been discarded. To maximize the impact, the team partnered with a local respite center for children with disabilities and worked with the center’s cook to select vegetables for daily meals, including green beans, carrots, tomatoes, bell peppers, and cucumbers.
Earlier this summer, team members came together to install the gardens on-site. The effort brought colleagues together around a shared goal while helping create a new source of fresh produce for the center.
The gardens are already beginning to produce fresh ingredients, demonstrating how a simple idea can reduce waste, support the community, and create lasting value. By combining resourcefulness with purpose, the Longueuil team turned recycled materials into something that will continue giving back for seasons to come.
