Bakelite’s Gold Medal reflects a strong and steadily advancing sustainability performance, driven by the implementation of new policies, operational enhancements, expanded public reporting, and focusing on sustainability initiatives such as Responsible Care and ISCC Plus. Key actions included installing solar panels at Barry (UK), Lantaron (Spain), and Kitee (Finland), and adding a steam turbine at Botlek (Netherlands). U.S. sites in Eugene and Albany (OR) advanced water reuse, while Louisville (KY) introduced a chiller system to reduce water consumption. These global upgrades were instrumental in achieving this top sustainability rating and reflect Bakelite’s commitment to measurable progress and transparency.

Why It Matters
EcoVadis’ business sustainability ratings are based on international sustainability standards such as the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, the International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and the ISO 26000 standard.
