Transforming Bakelite Through Connection and Growth

For Reshma, digital transformation goes far beyond technology. It is, at its heart, about people.

She describes her work as “growth, leveraging digital capabilities, reshaping business models and improving our competitive advantage in the areas of strategy and transformation.” Her mission is to build a simplified, unified digital foundation that enables Bakelite teams around the world to work smarter, move faster, and collaborate more seamlessly. In her words: “At Bakelite, it’s about using innovation in a way that truly supports our business goals — and brings people along with it.”

Why Digital Transformation Matters

Because her work touches nearly every area of the company, Reshma sees firsthand how even small improvements create meaningful ripple effects across workflows and regions. “It’s all about efficiency, how can we use technology to do things better?” she said.

One of the biggest challenges of digital transformation is finding solutions that meet the diverse needs of a global organization. Yet for Reshma, this isn’t a barrier — it’s motivation. Harmonized processes, shared systems, and unified digital practices are essential to ensuring Bakelite’s long-term success.

Building Trust at the Center of Change

When discussing the human side of transformation, Reshma emphasized: trust is where everything begins.

“Communication is important, but trust comes first,” she explained. An organization with a clear vision of how systems work, how data is used, and how changes impact them.

A Career Sparked by Curiosity and Fueled by Innovation

Though Reshma began her academic journey in finance, curiosity quickly redirected her path.

“As I learned how technology was transforming finance, I wanted to understand more,” she said.

That spark of interest evolved into a career in IT consulting, where she gained broad experience across multiple industries before bringing her expertise to Bakelite. From the early days of the internet to today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, her career has been defined by continual learning and a passion for what’s possible.

Women in Tech: Breaking Barriers and Lighting the Way

In recognition of Women’s History Month, Reshma shared the heartfelt message for women considering careers in technology.

She also highlighted empathy as a critical leadership advantage. It shapes how we listen, make decisions, and guide teams through change while keeping humanity and respect at the forefront.

From the early days of the internet to today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, Reshma has stayed energized by what’s ahead — and by the challenge of helping organizations keep pace.

Shaped by Supportive Leadership

When asked about the moments that have shaped her career, Reshma lit up describing her experience at Bakelite.

“The leadership here doesn’t just guide you — they help shape you to succeed,” she shared. “The culture, mentorship, and support truly align with our values.”

That support has been especially meaningful as a woman building a career in IT and chemical industry where women have historically been underrepresented.
