Today, we’re proud to highlight Kornelia Frerichs, Analytical Science Specialist based in Iserlohn-Letmathe, Germany. Kornelia’s journey at Bakelite reflects deep expertise, long-standing dedication, and a passion for innovation and sustainability.

Q: What is your role at Bakelite? How has it changed over the years?
A: I work in instrumental analysis, R&D, in Iserlohn-Letmathe. I operate more than 10 analytical instruments. Depending on the research question, I develop the appropriate methods, prepare, analyze and evaluate samples. The samples are very diverse and are used for new developments, adaptations, and quality assurance.
Q: How does your work contribute to Bakelite’s mission and vision? How would you say your mark is on the organization?
A: Research into newly developed phenolic resins is important for the sustainability of the products we manufacture. As a chemical laboratory technician for instrumental analysis, I am part of a dedicated team that monitors and ensures the reduction of environmental and health hazards.
Q: When did you come to Bakelite? What did you do before?
A: I began my training as a chemical laboratory technician in Letmathe. After completing my three-year apprenticeship, I worked for a year in resin synthesis R&D. My interest lays in instrumental analysis.
Q: What’s the best thing about your job at Bakelite? What sets this company apart from others?
A: My interest in analytics developed early on. I’m proud to be able to practice it every day. The job is varied, exciting and fulfilling. No two days are the same. My ideas regarding method development, sample preparation, analysis standardization, and evaluation formats are very important and highly valued.
Q: How do you support colleagues who are new to Bakelite?
A: I enjoy supporting my colleagues and answering their questions. It’s a given for me to treat everyone equally with respect, regardless of how long they’ve been with the company.
