Phenolic Foam

Bakelite‘s Resins for Phenolic Foam

Bakelite’s phenolic resins are the material of choice for foam insulation panels employed for a variety of applications.

The benefits they offer include:

  • Low R value/unit thickness
  • Excellent Fire, Smoke, Toxicity (FST) performance
  • Compatible with a wide variety of blowing agents and surfactant packages

Foams based on our Bakelite®, Cellobond™ and Durite™ resins are low emitting and exhibit superior performance. Used in combination with our Phencat™ hardeners provide foams with controlled cell structure, controlled exotherm rates, resistant to chemical attack, decreased formaldehyde emissions increasing safety of both occupational exposure and in the end use application.

Applications for phenolic foams include:

  • Thermal insulation: Excellent R value/unit thickness, FST performance, can be formed into a variety of shapes
  • Mining foams: Improved compression strength, adapt to strata movement
  • Floral foams: Good water absorption with low drainage, ease of cutting and shaping, good shape retention
